Grenada Elemenatry School District

Public Notification

Requirements of the No Child Left Behind Act of 2001

Status of Program Improvement for Grenada Elementary School

August 2015

The Grenada Elementary School District (GESD) is dedicated to ensuring that each student meets high standards of academic achievement.  This notice is being written to inform the public about Grenada Elementary School's status under the Provisions of the No Child Left Behind (NCLB) Act of 2001.

Title I schools are required to make Adequate Yearly Progress (AYP) on statewide achievement tests. If AYP is not met, the school is placed into Program Improvement (PI). It is anticipated that Grenada Elementary School will be identified as Year 1 for PI; the district is obligated to inform residents they have the option to enroll their children in schools that are not identified to be in Program Improvement. In our efforts to ensure that every student has the opportunity to succeed at a high level, the district office is in the process of creating agreements with other schools that are not in PI.

To further enhance student achievement efforts, every member of the administration and instructional staff of the GESD are being trained in the design and implementation of a Professional Learning Community (PLC) with an embedded Multi-tiered System of Support designed to target specialized student instruction at all levels.  This series of on-going professional development sessions is designed to ensure that curriculum standards are being met as well as to ensure that classroom instruction is closely monitored and aligned to scientifically researched methodologies.

We encourage parents/guardians to become involved. Please consider participating in advisory committees, becoming a member of the school site council, attending Back to School Night, Open House, Parent Conferences, or volunteering at our functions that are held throughout the year.

For more information please contact the Main Office at 530-436-223

Inclement Weather Notice

In the case of inclement weather, when it becomes necessary to delay the opening of school, an announcement will be made as early as possible. The announcement will be broadcast over KSYC (FM 103.9/AM 1490), the GES School Website (www.grenada.k12.ca.us), on FACEBOOK at Grenada Elementary School Club, and REMIND 101Once you hear the information, continue listening to your radio or checking the on-line information for any update related to the opening of school. A two-hour delay in opening means that the bus will pick up students two (2) hours later than the usual time. Students who walk or are driven to school should not arrive prior to 10:00 AM for the 10:25 opening of school. Depending upon the weather, there may not be staff on campus to answer phones prior to school opening.

Listen to the radio for announcements on late starts or school closures. Stations will only announce if there ARE changes.

What is an RSS Feed?

A format for content distribution, RSS stands for Really Simple Syndication. RSS is a system that allows a user to get automatic updates from multiple web sites whenever new content is published on these sites. It acts like a personal web reader by checking your selected sites regularly for new content. If you set up an RSS feed from the New York Times Sports section, for example, you would be notified whenever a new article was posted. The notification takes place in an RSS Reader.

How do I start using RSS Feeds?

To use a site’s RSS feature, an RSS reader is required.

  1. Choose an RSS reader. An internet search will return many options. Some readers are web-based, such as Google ReaderMy Yahoo! andBloglines. Web-based readers require no software installation and are accessible from any computer that has Internet access. Other readers are downloadable applications, such as FeedReader or FeedDemon.
  2. Once you’ve chosen an RSS reader, follow the instructions to download, install, and open the reader.
  3. Decide what type of content you want the RSS reader to monitor. Many web sites provide RSS, which can usually be found on those sites as a link. An orange button is often used to display the service’s availability. Sometimes the RSS feed is automatically added to the RSS reader and updates are sent every time new content is available. Alternatively, you may have to click the RSS link and copy it into your RSS reader.

Find the RSS feed at the bottom of each webpage on this site.

What is remind101?

remind101 is a website that provides a safe way for teachers to text message or email students and parents.

How does remind101 work?

Great question! First, a teacher adds his/her class, which generates a unique code. The teacher then shares that code with students or parents. At that point, any student or parent who sends a text message with the code will be "subscribed" to the teacher's class. Any time a teacher sends a message from remind101, all the students or parents subscribed will receive it. This short video explains it A-Z.

How do my students/ parents sign up?

Introducing the Remind101 Join Pages!

A new, easier way to sign up students and parents.  With the new join pages, your students and parents have and even easier way to sign up for your updates.  They visit a dedicated page for your class, enter their phone number, and get subscribed!

To access your dedicated class page, go here, or click the "Sign up as a student or parent" button on the Remind101 homepage and enter your class code.

Is it free for students and parents?

Standard messaging rates apply.
